REAL ESTATE NEWS BY JIM L CHAMBERS
APRIL 22, 2007
I returned to Birmingham, Alabama on April 18, 2007 from South Florida after finishing a very successful tax season from my office in Hollywood, Florida. What a contrast between Birmingham and South Florida!!! First, Alabama held their spring game in Tuscaloosa before a capacity crowd of more than 92,000 fans. The gates were locked at Bryant Denny Stadium with fans still trying to get into the stadium. Admission was free, but I have a feeling that these fans would have paid big bucks to watch Nick Saban showcase his new team. Saban is being touted as the 2nd coming of the late "Bear" Bryant here in Alabama, but in South Florida the media and fans continue to bash the coach that deserted the Miami Dolphins to return to college football.
In the world of real estate the contrast is just as sharp. Real estate prices have soared in South Florida in the last few years, and with real estate taxes and insurance rates rising every year, the purchase of real estate by the most people has become unafordable in South Florida. Here in Alabama there are still a lot of affordable properties. To be continued...........
